Saturday (16th May 2015), a group of coaches from Crumlin United FC will be heading to Portugal for a week’s training on the latest coaching techniques from the top clubs in the Country.

Gary Flaherty, Landfill Manager (second from left) is part of the coaching group.

The trip has been made possible under European Funding which allows coaches from one EU country to visit another EU country for learning and exchange of knowledge.

This has been an exciting year from the Mill Road men.

Not only did the club achieve promotion to the top tier of amateur league football but they have also managed to secure funding to update their ground with work due to start in May this year.

Geoff Wilson, trip organiser and coach at Crumlin United FC said, “This is a once in a life time opportunity for the coaches at the club. Work started on the trip in November last year and we secured the funding shortly after Christmas. Since then we have been putting in place the itinerary for the trip to ensure we get as much out of it as possible. The overall aim is to increase our knowledge of the latest coach education techniques and bring them back to the club. We will be visiting a wide range of clubs in Portugal, from Porto, Benfica to a number of second and third division clubs in the area. Each visit will focus on specific age groups such as Academy right up to senior football. We will be based in the South of the country at a training camp where all the top clubs and athletes train”.

Wilson continued, “A lot of hard work has gone into organising the week and I would like to thank Whitemountain who have come on board as a partner for the trip. The company is a major employer in the area and have been extremely supportive in this project.”

Warren Bell, Marketing Manager at Whitemountain said, “We are delighted to sponsor Crumlin United FC for this special training trip to Portugal. The impact that will be made due to the knowledge gained will have a major influence on the club in years to come”.
