Tree Planting Blackmountain Quarry

Date_ 3 November 2017

Volunteers from the Belfast Hills Partnership recently planted over 1000 trees at our Blackmountain Quarry. This project funded through the Woodland Trust’s More Trees Campaign will see scree slopes covered in young trees creating a haven for wildlife. Trees planted including silver birch, hazel and rowan which are all native to Northern Ireland.

Once they have grown to their full height these trees will help soften the skyline while providing food and shelter for a huge number of birds and animals. This initiative was carried as part of a four year plan working with the Belfast Hills Partnership through its Heritage Lottery Funded Landscape Partnership Scheme to get local people involved with projects which will benefit the Belfast Hills for generations to come.
