Glen Eagles Station Link road

The purpose of the project was to create a new link road from the existing railway station to the Loaninghead junction in order to close up the existing right hand turn lane access to the station from the A9 Dual Carriageway (accident blackspot), improve vehicle access and parking facilities at the station, and provide a safe and efficient access to cater for chartered train and bus services to the 2014 Ryder Cup at the Gleneagles Golf Course located adjacent to the Railway Station, and also accessed from the Loaninghead Junction Roundabout.
The project involved the construction of 1.0km of new single carriageway link road 7.3m wide, with 2.0m footpaths and 1m grass verges; the enlargement of an existing Roundabout from single carriageway to dual carriageway with associated tie–ins; and the construction, reconfiguration and enlargement of a car parking area within the existing operational railway station which is a listed building as designated by Historic Scotland.

‘’This investment in road and rail infrastructure around Gleneagles will deliver a lasting transport legacy for local communities,’’ said Transport Minister Keith Brown.

Antonia Beggs, Operations Director at Ryder Cup Europe said:
‘’We are delighted that these improvements have been put in place to help create a world–class event experience for ticket – holders. The 2014 Ryder Cup will bring 250,000 spectators to Gleneagles and this station access is a key component to our transport planning.
