West Apron Drainage Upgrade

West Apron Drainage Upgrade

Whitemountain carried out a major drainage upgrade at Belfast International Airport's West Apron.

The works involved the removal of the existing defective Gatic drainage system and replacing with F900 rated Aco Q-Max system.  The apron remained live throughout the duration of the works. Due to the short time frame available for each section of the works a high strength concrete with reinforced fibres was used to ensure that each area of work could be handed back to the client within a 21 day time frame, whilst the concrete was curing each section of works were protected with heavy duty steel plates to enable the areas to be trafficked.

Prior to commencement of the works the programme and logistics wrere agreed with the designer and airport operations. This enabled the works to be carried out with minimum disruption to the day-to-day workings of Belfast International Airport. After consultation with Airport operations, Whitemountain agreed to demobilise during the months of July and August to accommodate the peak operational period of the airport. Through daily liaison with airport operations the works were delivered on time, on budget and without incident.
