Gritstone Aggregates (+68 PSV)
+68 PSV Gritstone (Greywacke) is extracted from our Ballystockart Quarry near Comber.
Ballystockart's Gritstone is primarily exported to England for use in production of Asphalt Surface Courses.
Whitemountain produces aggregates in accordance with BS EN .................
Geology:
The greywackes are usually massive (although some beds could be described as flaggy), and are well bedded. The beds range in width from approximately 150 mm to 1 m, with the average being about 600 mm. These rocks are predominantly grey in colour, although some purple colouration can be found. These purple rocks are of sandstone grade, but are slightly coarser than the more common grey rock type.
The greywackes found at this location are identical to rocks from Southern Scotland of similar age.
